Beginning with the manufacturing of cedar poles and railway ties, logging and lumber operations grew from enterprising men who utilized the abundant natural resources.Today the forest continues to provide the economic mainstay of the area. However, Terrace is quickly turning into a major service center with fast growth and people moving up from big cities to escape the pressures of city life.

Terrace enjoys a growing tourist industry. Just as the early settlers appreciated Terrace's breathtaking mountainous setting, so do residents and visitors today. With three provincial parks, numerious municipal parks, scenic hiking trails, whitewater rafting and a hotsprings nearby,Terrace attracts visitors from all over the world. But the sport-fishing reputation attracts the most. The Skeena River boasts one of the world's largest runs of Steelhead, Chinook and coho salmon. Trout enthusiasts find Dolly Varden, Char and cuttthroat in the rivers and surrounding lakes.
